The Medical Aid Group For Refugees Bochum e.V. is a human rights organization whose goal is to improve the situation for refugees and migrants who, because of legislation in Germany, are partly or completely denied access to medical assistance.
Our political work aims at abolishing discriminatory laws, and racist daily practices, directed against refugees and migrants. The public health system must be open to all.

We offer practical medical assistance to refugees and migrants

• who are afraid of visiting a doctor's practice because they don't have residency status or papers ...
• whom, despite of owning valid papers, Sozialamt refuses to cover the costs of health care ...
• who, through the experience of torture, war or exile, need psychological support.

In our consulting hours we arrange appointments with physicians who are prepared to attend refugees and migrants anonymously and for free. People can either consult us personally, or send a person of their confidence. It is also possible to contact us by telephone outside of our consulting hours. An answering machine is being checked daily. Consultations can furthermore be arranged for other times and places, if necessary. We guarantee that the consultations remain confidential in any case. No personal information is collected by our staff.
During the consultation time there is usually a man and a woman present. At least one of them is a physician. They will hold a first conversation with the person visiting us for health assistance. During this conversation they will detect which type of medical specialist would be best to start a treatment. Then the patient will be transferred to a doctor, psychologist, midwife or physiotherapist who is cooperating with us. Translations can also be arranged if necessary.
The Medical Aid Group For Refugees does not give any information to German authorities. The content of the conversation is strictly confidential.
